What is Scouting
Scouting is a set of programs available for boys and girls aged 5 through 20, which teaches age-appropriate skills to build leadership, character, citizenship, and personal responsibility. Scouting provides the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training, which helps young people be “Prepared. For Life.”
Scouting is Fun
The Scouting experience is divided into five programs according to age and activities. Whether it is a 6-year-old making a visit to the local fire station, a 14-year-old going on their first rock climbing outing, or a 20-year-old completing a ten-day adventure backpacking trek, Scouting programs help build leaders through fun experiences with friends!

Scouting Builds Leaders and Character
The BSA’s goal is to train youth from kindergarten through college age in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities and educational programs. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to instill typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. For older youth, the programs reinforce these Scouting values through outdoor activities, adventure experiences, public service, and career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations
